St James' Village Projects

The St James Parish Meeting is a local government body with variety of statutory functions, powers and rights of notification or consultation which are carried out on behalf of our parishioners. They are explained in some detail here: Powers & Functions of a Parish Meeting. They enable the Parish Meeting, its Chairman and Committee to look after day-to-day matters that keep the village running.

The special nature of a Parish Meeting, consisting of everyone in the village on the electoral roll provides an opportunity for residents to initiate, manage , deliver and support projects or activities that the village wishes to do for itself.

This can include a wide variety of projects for services, facilities, infrastructure and events for the benefit of the village. They may be set up and managed by the Parish Meeting, by other formal or informal village groups or organisations, or other small teams. Two of the largest projects we have undertaken were the building of our imposing Village Hall and the creation of the Village Orchard. The Village Hall had its 50th anniversary in 2023, you can find out more about the Hall now. The Orchard has its own section of this website.
